Does getting a panic attack mean you have Anxiety Disorder?

I thought I had Anxiety disorder since I am:
- always afraid of insects/ghosts
- I went through a lot of trauma when I was young
- I am afraid of public speaking. I get clammy and insides feel numb when I have to speak in class.
- Always pessimistic, always think everyone has something against me or that I am being framed somehow.

Well today I think I had an anxiety attack cause my bf was threatening me. I was trapped and needed to get out and ended up getting an attack which ended our fight. Does that confirm that I have anxiety disorder, or can anyone get a panic attack? I had shortness of breath, tingling in arms and face area, dizziness, trembling, chest discomfort. After everything subdued it felt like I ran a few miles.

Anyone can have a panic attack if stressed too much. People have breakdowns sometimes. From what you've listed and from what I know, I don't think that's enough to be diagnosed with an anxiety disorder, but you didn't put some crucial details that would be necessary for diagnosis (if we were doctors, which we aren't anyway.) If you're worried about it, ask your GP to refer you to a psychologist. No harm in getting things checked out if you're concerned. :)

I am not a doctor, but do have Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) with panic episodes. I am going to guess that if it is chronic, you probably have GAD or another anxiety disorder. If you just get an occasional panic disorder you might not.

I would see a doc if you are concerned.

Panic episodes are a bi-otch to deal with. I hate them. I have the exact same symptoms you do PLUS twice I have fainted. pretty scary but I try to manage. Good luck!

Hi,

It very common for anxiety and panic attacks to go hand in hand. Most people who suffer from anxiety can have many panic attacks, but even some who dont experience anxiety can have an occasional panic attack. Any form of stress building can cause a panic attack but its when they are happening on an ongoing basis that you would want to seek some help if its affecting your life. I personally had an anxiety problem for about 4 years and throughout those 4 years had many panic attacks. I have since overcome my anxiety and along with it have the attacks subsided. If these attacks you are having begin to affect your day to day living please seek some help from a professional counsellor. If you are still currently dealing with anxiety relating to the issues you described i would highly suggest speaking with someone.

Take care ,
