I need help from people who suffer from generalized anxiety disorder.?

I have anxiety, I have had it since I can remember. Some days I start to feel better but as good as I feel one day is how bad I will feel the next. I want to get over it because I know if I don't my kids might pick it up and have to live with this too. People say on these things that it's a choice, that people choose to live with this. But those who have Generalized anxiety know that's not true. I don't have low self esteem... I'm a smart strong person. I try to fight it everyday and can't seem to overcome it and it's so frustrating. If anyone has any advice I would love to hear it. I don't want my kids to learn this behavior and i just want this weight lifted off my sholders and be able to live care free and happy. My anxiety isn't from stress, I have a fairly good life. I live alone with my kids and I'm independant. I have a good job and really don't need much. I just want to let go of this, I don't remember what it's like to feel normal. Any advice?

Start by learning some relaxation behaviors: try meditation, yoga, or just general deep breathing and progresive muscle relaxation. Practice them every day til you can use them without thinking whenever you start to notice an increase in anxiety. Teach your children to calm their internal worlds when things get overwhelming by taking a step back and focusing to avoid the over generalization and globalization of the anxiety.
