Social anxiety disorder.. help? |
i've been having this disorder for years and i've taken paxil for more than a year.. it has helped in fast heart beating and sweatiness.. but i still get nervous.. so a year later.. i went to this new doctor and told him about it.. he switched the medicine to buspirone.. this medicine has made me sweat soo much when im meeting with people or just thinking about another person.. it caused me dizziness and wanting to throw up.. i tried to contact with the doctor but he never answers my call.. i live in baton rouge louisiana. is there any other way for me to solve this? this medicine has made it worser. if he doesn't return your calls keep calling or go down to his office and tell them you are having a reaction to the medication and you want to switch. i am going through the same thing with my doctor for anxiety. i was on wellbutrin sr, among many other different meds and they all had bad side effects. i finally got another doctors opinion and she told me to tell my primary doctor to put me on a small dose of lexapro. she says it has the least amount of side effects. my doctor is on vacation now so i have to wait so i don't know how it works. i have been trying to get on the right meds for over a month. i would just keep bugging your doctor, call a few times a day or go down there or change doctors. HELL NO! It was the opposite for me, I did soso on buproprion, and had an extremely negetive reaction to paxil. I became disorientated, sweaty, confused, pins and needles in my fingers and palms, nauseau, etc. FIND SOMEONE WHO CARES! These Doctors are supposed to have a code of ethics, and if you are suffering like that, than he definately cares more about getting his $90 per 10 minutes that he does about you or anyone like you. Advocate for yourself even if you have to stomp down to the nearest ER and demand help. Their is NO reason why you should have to feel like that. And don't worry. Eventually the right Dr. will put you on the right medication. I found out later that I'm bipolar and the worse thing you can give a bipolar is an antidepressant. It took 6 years for them to figure this out, but I did not ask any questions.....don't be me....Take control of it before it takes control of you... You should switch doctors. Hope you are having a psychiatrists or therapist prescribe you the meds, they are better than just your regular doctor.. NUMBER ONE THING I HAVE LEARNED! You may have to switch doctors a dozen times or more until you find one that is good for you (i know, inconvenient) but the good news is once you find the right doc and get on the right system (meds and therapy) from there you are GREAT. I am sorry you are having these troubles.. i know how much it sucks. But keep your head up.. there is a solution. If the paxil was of benefit and the new medication is doing you no good, you have to get you original medication. I think buspirone is not much help to people who have been on another antidepressant as it is milder or blocked in some way. You can always see another doctor. I also have social anxiety. It's funny because my doctor put me on buspar (maybe it's the same thing) and I hated it! So I told him and he put me back on Lexapro. But I haven't taken any medication in over six months and I feel fine. I am still socially anxious, but I am trying to deal with it without medication. You are stronger than you think you are! But my advice is to get off that medicine you're on now asap. Please stop taking those pills... PLEASE.... and i think you actually dont need a doc to help you... it just the way of your thinking that you get nervous...... I am not a doc, and i too an sooooooooooo anxious when i have to meet new people... what you have to do is... just go out alone... just observe them.. no need to speak or interact with them.... (dont quote me) But I think part of your medicine might morphine, which is if you dont normaly take it, actually causes the body to be over stimulated. this is an old school medicine..... i would ask the doctor to transfer my records to anothe doctor ( he has to legally) and get a good doctor that will followup with you and return you to your paxil.... a doctor or nurse not returning phone calls to a patient is inexcuseable I don't know what to do about the medicine aside from stop usage (which is probably HIGHLY risky and worse off), but I would continue to call the doctors and be very STERN about getting in contact with this doctor. In the mean time do try to get a new doctor. Although I'm still not totally over it...it's a struggle I've had all my life. First, ditch the pills. Second, try cognitive therapy...I read somewhere it works. Or, just try to slowly expose yourself to the things you fear. And pray a lot. Good luck. ummm start smoking weed like normal kids in high school, not only will you be around people with similar problems (support group) you may be popular and ur attention will increase Don't worry. Usually this problem subsides more and more as u get older. Get a new doctor. There is NO reason that a doctor's office should not return your calls, period!!! Well first, STOP TAKING IT if it's not helping or making things worse. Busitrone is an anxiolytic, which is any medicine used to treat anxiety. It actually has a really low addiction factor ("no potential for abuse" actually) compared to other medication, which is good. BUT, if it's not helping and making it worse, and you're still taking it, stop. |
