Could a cause of social anxiety disorder be living with a borderline personality mother?

Any other information/tips welcomed. I have SAD

Jennifer, living with a borderline personality disorder can cause all kinds of problems including social anxiety disorder.

There are many, many people out there like you who are trying to sort out their lives after having their childhoods interrupted by a bpd parent.

Social anxiety disorder is also known as social phobia disorder.... Mothers with bpd are generally not able to parent effectively unless they have been in effective long-term treatment. Their children suffer terribly in many ways, and often the inconsistency of the mother's behaviors towards her children causes the children anxiety... they don't know if they are bad or good or what way is up. Additionally, the mothers are often verbally, emotionally or physically abusive, and the children often have long-term emotional scars. Good luck to you as you work through this!

Please consider therapy in a group of people who have lived through bpd moms, and please look into the forums at www.bpdfamily.com . You will find many people working through similar issues.

Living with a mother who has BPD can lead to all sorts of disorders. My mother had it, and I have a form that is almost opposite from the normal symptoms- over-controlled, can't lose my temper, etc. Sorry about your SAD- anxiety is a real pill- I've had it too. I hope you get the help you need.
