Can a woman suffering from an anxiety disorder make a good military wife?

I don't mean a crippling disorder like OCD, but I mean if the woman has issues with low self esteem and nerves. For instance, when she meets people for the first time, she feels extrememly self conscious and worries about making a good impression.

Or if she feels someone is judging her or challenging something she says, she either gets defensive or becomes very quiet and wishes she hadn't said anything.

Sometimes she reads too much into other's actions. She trusts her husband not to cheat on her, but feels a little uncomfortable if he spends one-on-one time with other females.

Wife is a wife military or civilian. I don't see how any of these issues your describe would effect being a military wife. I See them as issues that any woman would have as a wife in general. Seek counseling or therapy and you will be okay.

BTW I have depression and anxiety as well.

Ummm, this seems like normal behavior...everybody feels nervous and judged etc sometimes, everybody would like to make a good first impression, sometimes you do and sometimes you don't , You just plow through.

I say, if you love that man and he loves you the same then, Yes! Disorder or no disorder, the military is stressful to any kind of relationship. The worst case scenario is him being gone away for months at a time with other women and men. If you can deal with that then you'll be fine. Good Luck.

Well, there is no time like the present to get over these issues. I don't think it is an issue of being a good "military wife" - it is an issue of having a successful, healthy relationship with your husband regardless of his profession.

I wonder, with your questions, if you are trying to get someone to tell you to break the engagement.

If you don't want to get married, don't. Break the engagement and give yourself and him a chance to move on.

Sounds like my wife. We made it 22 years (well I did, she was with me the last 14 of it). Just think ahead and you'll be fine. Military wife is a tough job.

Sure, I don't see why not. I spent 22 years in the navy and I think I met every kind of person God put on the Earth. There's plenty with bigger problems than mild anxiety.

it takes a strong willed, independent and self confident person to be a military spouse.
