I was diagnosed with anxiety disorder and my problem is that I get short of breathe?

it seems like I can't breathe and I have a low heart beat,
I hear people complaining about rising HR, but in my case is different... My heartbeat per minutes is 56 some times and I get
sharp pain on my left side chest. is this normal? I'm on paxil right now. but it seems to make it worse. any feedback please??

Are you overweight or do you smoke? I'm on Paxil too and when I get short of breath it's because I need to lose weight. Paxil always has made me eat too much.
Im so sorry you're going through this

I also just started getting them I thought i was dying when i had my first one after a traumatic fall. Yes this is normal. Talk to your doctor about switching you to a different medicine. It is possible that the medicine youre on now is making it worse. I always rely on my paper bag to help me with my breathing.
Best of Luck!
Im so sorry again!!

if the paxil is making it worse talk to the doctor who prescribed it and see if he/she can make any changes.
Some people are bradycardiac by nature-HR below 60 and they are ok., but if your Hr used to be different than these before you were on the paxil let you md know.
Try taking deep breaths in and out, breathe into a paper bag too.
Get to your doctor IMMEDIATELY! You may be having adverse side effects to the medication and a low heart rate is not a good sign. Also, any sharp pain on your left side of your chest could be a sign of a pending heart attack or perhaps something less severe, but you cannot be diagnosed via internet suggestions for a complex problem like this. First, if you cannot see the doctor, go to the ER and let them know about your chest pain. This is a very obvious warning sign that you need help. You may also want to call your pharmacy that filled the Paxil Rx and inquire about the side effects, but do not wait, GET TO THE ER or DOCTOR IMMEDIATELY. It does not matter how old or young you are, heart problems can occur at any age. Get going, don't wait for anymore answers.

Good Luck, I will pray for your healing. Let;'s hope it is nothing serious.

Be well.
YOU NEED TO GET REEVALUATED FOR THE MEDS, PAXIL DON'T ALWAYS WORK FOR EVERYONE. ALSO YOU CAN GET WITH YOUR REGULAR DOCTOR, ABOUT THE LOW HEART BEAT, IF YOU DIDN'T HAVE THAT BEFORE THE PAXIL IT COULD BE A SIDE EFFECT.

WATCH YOUR DIET: Eat food high in calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, and potassium since these nutrients are depleted by stress. Limit meats and other animal proteins and eat lots of fruits, grains, and vegetables instead.

AVOID CAFFEINE: Caffeine can trigger panic attacks so avoid coffee, chocolate, some sodas and some teas, and other products containing caffeine.

AVOID REFINED SUGARS AND SIMPLE CARBOHYDRATES: Cut simple sugars, carbonated soft drinks and alcohol out of the diet.

------------------------------...

Lifestyle Changes
TRY TO PINPOINT ANY FOOD ALLERGIES: Since food allergies may trigger panic attacks keep track of what you eat to see what foods might be causing the attacks.

LEARN TO RELAX: Find a relaxation technique that works for you and use it to combat stress. Use breathing techniques to manage attacks.

EXERCISE: It doesn't have to be anything too strenuous, just get out there and take a walk, go for a swim, or do something to develop a regular exercise routine. Studies have shown that exercise has a positive effect on mental health.

GET PLENTY OF SLEEP: This is important for maintaining health and for keeping stress levels down.

TALK WITH A FRIEND: Talking about what is bothering you can help relieve stress.

PRACTICE GOOD TIME MANAGEMENT: Good planning can eliminate a lot of needless worry and running around which in turn will help reduce stress.

ELIMINATE STRESSFUL ACTIVITIES FROM YOUR LIFE: Identify what causes you stress and eliminate it from your lifestyle when possible.

------------------------------...

Medical Options and Precautions
PSYCHOTHERAPY: The two main types are behavioral therapy (breathing exercises and exposure to whatever frightens the patient) and cognitive-behavioral therapy (teaches patients to react differently to stress).

MEDICATION:

Antidepressants: Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors are slow acting and may not take effect for several weeks after beginning use. Tricyclic Antidepressants can cause weight gain, sleepiness, constipation, and headache. Monoamine oxidase inhibitors can cause severe high blood pressure if taken with red wine, cheese, beer or other foods containing tyramine and may cause dangerous interactions when taken with certain non-prescription drugs such as certain cold remedies.

Anti-anxiety drugs: Benzodiazepines are addictive and the patient can develop a tolerance for the drug so that it eventually stops working for them entirely. Azapirones are less effective than benzodiazepines but do not induce tolerance. Beta-blockers do not cause depression or sleepiness.

All of the above medications are meant to relieve the symptoms of anxiety disorders, not cure them, and each medication comes with its own set of side effects.

FROM EXPERIENCE, AND GOT THIS INFO FROM GOOGLE
I perform diagnostic testing all the time on people who are suffering from anxiety, but are otherwise healthy. Shortness of breath is extremely common. When the anxiety is relieved the shortness of breath is relieved.

After a physician rules out any problems that could be causing shortness of breath and all your left with is anxiety, then you can start working on management of your anxiety through therapy, medication, or biofeedback training.

Take your concerns as described to YA and communicate them to your doctor.

It appears to be a rough road to follow when anxiety is one of your primary problems. Good luck.
