Am i suffering from anxiety disorder? |
i just looked it up on the internet and i have all the signs of it but its scareing me coz it says that its a mental desorder i dont wanna be mental! im only 14! my mums mental do u think it might of affected me pleazzzeeee help! thank you hope u hav a happy new year! Every post on here is worded in a way that makes it seem like people don't really get anxiety disorders when they're younger it seems. I started having panic attacks at 12 and was staying awake for weeks at a stretch and then sleeping 24 hours at a time the next week since I was around 8. Some people are born with the mental disorders and they are in effect from the beginning. I didn't get any help until I was 15 because everyone thought it was "just hormones". Because hormones will make you so irrationally afraid that you decide to stay in your closet for a day because it's too dangerous outside of it. If it's interfering with your life or seems disproportionate to your friends stress and fear levels then don't have any qualms about seeking help. Mental illness does show signs of being genetic and at least for my family is obviously so. There isn't any other explanation for the fact that almost all my cousins have anxiety and depression issues. Don't let anyone tell you you're too young to be sick. It's what your feeling is a problem for you in everyday life speak up and actively pursue getting help. Good luck and Ihope you feel better soon. The only person who can difinitively diagnose an anxiety disorder, honey, is a doctor or psychologist. There is absolutely nothing to be ashamed of, and calling your mum and yourself mental will help nothing. As your mum has problems in this area, you're probably pre-disposed to a similar condition. But rest assured, anxiety can be treated very effectively, and cured. I am currently recovering from an acute anxiety disorder, with a tendancy to catastrophic panic attacks. Key word: recovering. It can happen. Talk to your mum, or someone else close to you, about getting yourself a diagnosis, and any help that you may need. Good luck, love. hey i dont think 'mental' is heriditary me don't diagnose yourself.... everyone is a little loopy!!! spend less time worrying whats wrong with a little more time exploring what's right. First of all, are you using any illegal drugs? Most all will cause some form of anxiety, so stop if you are. Second if you have "all the symptoms" you just might. At 14 people have a certain amount of anxiety related to social/school/hormonal issues. If it interferes with your daily life, then go to a psychiatrist for an evaluation. Doesn't mean your"mental". They more you worry about whether you have it, the more anxiety you'll have. Millions have and deal with it everyday. Have worked with hundreds with anxiety disorders |
