I have an anxiety disorder. I hate the meds. But I'm not sure what else I can do to control myself.?

I have had 5 panic attacks in the last two weeks. I'm an entering freshman at UT. I'm getting behind in my work. I'm taking Calc and Chem intros and I'm not understanding much.

First of all, you need to realize that starting school at any level is a stressful situation, and you're not alone. If you're having trouble with your classes, your University has tons of help! I know, because I finished my intro year last year, and had the same problems you did at the beginning. (Like what the heck is a derivative, anyway?)

Second of all, one of the best ways to deal with anxiety disorders is to seek the help of a therapist. With meds or not, therapists are trained to teach you coping strategies when you feel an attack coming on, or when you know you're going to be in a situation that could provoke an attack.
Your therapist can help you work through your disorder and help you learn to deal with it, rather than relying solely on meds to 'fix' what's wrong.
Yoga and meditation can help as well, as they help you control your breathing and teach relaxation techniques.
Hope that helped a bit Source(s): Me! I finished my masters in psychology before starting in on the science track. I'm a nerd.
Ask yourself, what the reason is you 'hate' taking the meds? ?

Is it worse than the attacks? ?

That is where the answer is!!

Good luck to you!
your so stress out it not funny I now that the meds help you but you need to claim down I know it easy said then done but try for your health God Bless
I was diagnosed with an anxiety disorder when I was 20, right after I had my son. I took the meds for a year, but was unhappy with them. While first, I would reccomend consulting your therapist or the doctor prescribing the medications, I can atest that personally meditation and yoga has helped me out immesely! I no longer take my medications, but I do maintain a relationship with a therapist and still go once a month.

It is probably normal that you are very stressed right now, but it is good to keep in mind that you can handle it and it is not impossible!!!

Try to make sure you have time to relax and recoup, and perhaps spread out yourself, so you are making sure you have the proper help with your classes so that you can feel more confident with your study load.

Good luck with college!!!
Get therapy as well.
Depends on which you hate the worst. Anxiety or the meds? Change meds, maybe.
