Nursing care of patient with anxiety disorder? |
anxiety disorder ur'e questions confusin? can u reword it..maybe..thn i can help :D I'm not too sure what you want to know about nursing someone with an anxiety disorder, but I'll tell you what I know about it. I have social and generalized anxiety disorders. I've had them for at least eight years. New situations and new people really tend to freak me out. When you are having an anxiety or panic attack, you feel as though you are literally going to die, or something really bad is going to happen. A lot of things can trigger a panic attack such as: Being in a situation that has been the cause of a previous episode, Being in a new place or situation, meeting new people, thinking that you might embarrass or humiliate yourself somehow, and many other things. It's not always possible to avoid these things. When someone is having an attack, try to take them somewhere quiet, don't get in their personal space but stay with them, reassure them, be kind, and offer a previously prescribed anti-anxiety medication. People with anxiety disorders can become avoidant of any and all things that they perceive to be triggers. This can cause problems, especially if they stop going out in public altogether. The longer you avoid these situations, the harder it will be to try to resume a normal life. Gradually exposing the patient to some of these triggers, can help them overcome their fears, but don't overdo it. If they start to become anxious, stop, think, breath, try to calm them down. Personal experience, including having proffessional help, with meds |
