My Pitch black dreams and anxiety disorder, help please.?

I dont understand why I always have these dreams where it is pitch black, and near the end, when im about to wake up I dream that demons are hidding in shadows and out to get me. Just before I wake up I dream that a demon is appearing or jumping at me.... with claws and red eyes.... with a red body... snarling at me. About to attack me. I have no dreams except for this near the end of it before I wake up.
My anxiety attacks I cant help.... Im taking medication for it and I know I cant take it forever. What should I do to help relieve myself?

I had similar nightmare when I was child and growing up. Darkness was my enemy and I would be waiting to see the daylight after sleepless nights or after scary dreams, as you have mentioned above.

Let us see what may have happened with you. You may have a "lot of unresolved child hood issues" which may ultimately culminate into some sort of "mental disease" at later stages.

So, better consult both types of specialists (psychiatrist and psychologist). They are better placed to say specifically how much is to be treated by medicines and how much by counseling and such methods.

I think you've partly answered your own questions, the darkness in your dreams adn the demons etc, are all signs of your anxiety which your subconcious is manifesting in this way while you sleep. Have you discussed the way you're feeling with a doctor or counsellor? If not, I think you should as they are the best qualified people to help you start to feel better. As you say, you can't take medication forever but the right medication can help you to feel positive enough to start making changes that will improve the way you feel long term. Good luck.
What probably started you having this dream continouisly is the first time you had it it scared you so much that you could not get it off your mind. So, every night right before you go to bed this dream is the first thing that pops in your head. What you can try to do is, First when you start thinking about the dream do something in your house that you like to do. For example, read a book, watch a favorite movie, draw pictures, or sew. Another thing you want to do is, don't go to sleep until you are so tired you can't stay. Then when you do go to lay in your bed think about what you've accomploshed that day, the book you read, the movie you watched, or what you were trying to draw/sew. This way your mind will be focused on other things besides the dream. People normally dream about what was on their mind before they went to bed that night. Since you seem to have this dream every night it is diffently what is on your mind before you fall asleep. So, change your chain of thought and you'll change your dream.
