Prozac ( Fluxotine) for anxiety disorder?

I suffer from severe anxiety disorder with depersonalisation. I have seen a private psichiatric yesterday and he prescribed me Prozac. Did anyone take this medicine for anxiety? Are there side effects? How long did it take for improvement? Is it true that u feel worse in the fist couple of days or even weeks? Thank u!

I've been on Prozac for 6 months now, for depression and anxiety. I experienced side effects at the start but they are now all gone completley or less intense. My GP told me that the most common side effects people tend to complain of are problems sleeping and restlessness, which I experienced. Anti-depressants are very unique to the person though, the only way to know how it will effect you is to take it!

Prozac wont "cure" your anxiety. You should consider getting other help for it like using decent self help books and asking to recieve therapy so you can learn to control and overcome your negative thought patterns.

Prozac can take weeks before it begins to work fully but again, it depends on the individual. I noticed improvement in the first week.

Hope it helps you, if it doesnt you can always go back and ask to try another drug, some people have to try a few before finding one that suits them.

i am on a different SSIR for anxiety but its the same thing, i didn't notice much difference for 6 weeks but it has really helped, the side effects are the worst but ride through them and once they have gone you will notice a change. I was unable to leave my home with out having a panic attack now i can go shopping and go other places that used to give me panic. it hasn't gone away fully but im better able to cope with it now.

prozac isn't usually used to treat anxiety, it's more for depression, OCD and bulimia, that's not to say it won't work. Things may get worse before they get better but it differs from person to person. However if you do feel worse in the first couple of weeks it's a good sign that the drug will work for you.

i am not sure of the answer but if the Psychiatrist prescribed it then they obviously think it is the best for you however i have heard for and against this drug and i think the jury is still out on it.

to learn more google (or whatever your search engine is) medical prozac and you should be able to get all the facts there.

i hope you improve soon. good luck.

I liked it, but I guess everyone has a different take on it. I found it best to take at night otherwise I couldn't sleep.
I didn't feel worse in the first 6 weeks but I was wondering if it was real or not, Once it kicked in it was fine.

I no longer need it now and I feel fine.

I found it helped, but started not knowing if I really felt happy or not after a while. I guess it works for some and doesn't for others - definitely worth a try if you have bad anxiety. It takes 3 weeks before you start feeling the effects.

I've tried a few different Antidepressants for OCD, Depression and Anxiety. Fluoxetine is the only one that helps my OCD at all! You'll probably get a few side effects for the first week or two, such as headache, nausea, light headedness etc etc .... they will subside though. Good luck.

it will get worse before it gets better. That is what prozac does. However i would suggest a good diet and exercise.....popping a pill is not going to solve your problems. Good luck.

while you are taking this medication, try to surround yourself with your friends/family as much as possible...i won't tell you why because then you'll become obsessed over it and eventually succumb to the prob that often follows patients who are taking prozac..just remain optimistic

good luck!

I'm on stuff call Mirtazapine! I take one at night and it helps me sleep a bit but if u need someone to talk to send me a message!

I was put on Fluxotine to treat post natal depression and it worked wonders. I had been on citalopram but it didn't work.

It took a few weeks for it to get into my system, got me out of a very nasty rut I had got myself into and made me see like more clearly. none of it was instant fix and I stayed on it for a few months and slowly got myself a normal life without the pills. I haven't gone back on them since. If I was to suffer from depression again I would ask to be put back on them straight away.

I never felt worse when I started taking them, i think it depends on the individual and their attitude to the tablets. I was very optimistic and looked on them positively.

Good luck hope they work for you.
