Does anyone have generalized anxiety disorder?

What's it like? What were you put on to solve it?

Ashley,

I used to.

IMHO, you really should avoid medicine, when avoidable, of course. I am not saying you should not listen to you doctor!

I had anxiety when I had to speak in public. Or when there would be more than a few people around me in the same room. It was something that started when I was a teenager and that lasted over years and subsequently affected my career until not so long ago.

At some point, I was prescribed medicine but I wanted to avoid that because of the side effects. That's when I discovered a program that literally pulled me out of that "hole". It is a natural method, i.e. without drugs. The key is that you should no longer fear the thought of anxiety. Get out of that loop. It works, it is drug free and I even re-gained my old self-confidence.

Good luck!

There is a comprehensive quiz for it in section 6, below. Limit "worrying time" to around 45 mns, daily, possibly when you get home, or after your evening meal, but not too close to bedtime) after which, resolve firmly to refuse to worry again on that day: realise and accept that to do otherwise would be counterproductive to your mental health, and enjoyment of life. You will have had your "worry time" for the day, and can just write down any more thoughts that come to mind, and say to yourself: "Well, I'll just have to worry about that tomorrow, won't I?". It's important to regularly monitor, and deal with a negative internal monologue (self talk), or mental process, such as disturbing thoughts, images, impulses, or emotions, by the process of (a): recognising it, and (b): challenging it immediately. Technique For Re-Programming Negative Thoughts: When you notice something negative, such as: "I can't do this/ am never going to get over this!" or: "Why am I always so pathetic/useless/such a loser?" or even an image, emotion, or a memory; recognise that it is being generated from the negative part of your mind. Having identified and labelled it, visualise a large, red, flashing, "STOP!" sign, and/or possibly a stern faced person wagging an index finger at you in a negative manner, then say to yourself as forcefully as you can, even aloud in a big voice, if alone: "I know this tactic: GO AWAY FOR A WHILE !!!" You may want to use either: "ruse", "ploy", "game", or "trick". In the case of an image, visualise a large "STOP" sign, or your preferred version.

Some people go so far as to keep a wide rubber band in their pocket, then put it around their wrist, when they catch themselves backsliding, stretch and release it, as a method of reprogramming their mind sooner, but I don't regard it as being strictly necessary. Remember to remove it, afterwards, if you use this method. Try replacing a negative thought with a positive affirmation of your choice, like: "I am a unique individual, with my own set of skills, and good points", or "I may not be perfect, but I'm doing the best I can, right now". Practice one of the relaxation methods in sections 2, 11, 2c, or 2i, daily, and when needed. Tai Chi, or yoga suits others better. Give the EFT a good tryout, to see if it helps you. There is a version for use in public places, (you can claim to have a headache, as you massage/lightly tap your temples, but you would then be restricted to subvocalising: saying it to yourself in your mind). Section 53, at http://www.ezy-build.net.nz/~shaneris refers: "Even though I sometimes suffer from anxiety, I deeply and completely accept myself." Or Google: "neurofeedback; therapists" Herbal remedies, such as chamomile, passionflower, or St.John's wort, are often effective, but the idea is (as with anxiolytic medication) to use them like water wings, or training wheels on a bicycle, providing initial support, and giving time for other treatments, such as therapy, and relaxation techniques, to take effect.

It depends on how serious your anxiety is and how your anxiety expresses it's self, When I get really anxious my heart races, I sweat and I shake. When my daughter gets really anxious she starts to shake really badly to the point where it looks like she's having an epileptic seizure. I take buspar and she takes seroquel. the buspar works for me and keeps me calm and the seroquel works for her and keeps her calm. So a lot depends on how your anxiety manifests it's self.

Like everything else, it depends on how bad you have it. You can feel super hyper with an inability to pay attention. You can think you're going to die. You can have stomach problems, shaky hands, tight muscles, you can worry about the future and the past, you can feel like you can't do anything right. All kinds of weird crap. I am on a combo of wellbutrin and prozac and doing dbt to help with the haywire thinking.

Yes I do.

It's hard to explain what it's like for me, because I don't have much to compare it to. My first major symptoms popped up when I was seven, so I don't remember much else. It sort of became a way of life, and after a while, I honestly thought I just couldn't handle things everyone else could. Starting school was impossible. I was in tears for weeks, and I had no idea my fast heart rate and on-and-off extreme symptoms were an anxiety attack. I thought it was just what I was going to live with my whole life. Vacations were hard, going to other people's houses was hard, any kind of change was damn near impossible. Then it all blew up on a vacation this past summer, when I literally thought I was not going to make it through life the way I was living it.

I went to therapy, was told something was wrong with me and that I was in fact not just insane or a wimp, and am now on Lexapro which is a mild anti-anxiety med. I am SO much happier, and life is SO much easier. Now what terrifies me is thinking of how much time I spent not being diagnosed and treated.

Do you have it?

Its like when your stressing over a test or something. You feel like that most of the time. And most of the time you haven't got a clue why. And then you stress trying to figure it out. So its just all messed up. I was put on Paxil been on it for 8 years just stopped it so well see how it goes.

i tried everything available in the market to cure my anxiety disorder and nothing worked, and now i am taking Vilift really made me relax, calm and cured i may say.
