How can i help my mate who has a social anxiety disorder & depression?

Hi,
i am 19 & so is my mate who i'm trying to help. I am really very worried as he has had suicidle thoughts. He has been to see a doctor & is waiting to be referred to a mental health specialist. Though, i want to help him get through this difficult period in his life.
So does anyone have any ideas how i can help please?
thxs all

Just let your friend know that if he ever needs anything that you're more than happy to help him out.. it's always comforting for people with anxiety and depression to know that someone truly cares and that they have a good friend they can rely on for support.. you're more of a help than you know, thank you for being such a good person and good friend.. it's very unselfish of you to want to help him through this difficult time.. many people do not understand about anxiety and depression and just put it off as being standoffish or shy, but it's so much more than that.. best wishes, take care.

Be as supportive as possible but PLEASE call immediately to be seen by a professional mental health specialist. Or even go the emergency room of your local hospital. And be honest about answering their questions! When someone is having suicidal thoughts they can act on them at any time. These are not rational thoughts and should be taken seriously.
Anxiety and depression are an illness just like high blood pressure or cancer. They are caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain. There are simple medications to correct this imbalance. Please get him the help he needs. He is unable to do that himself right now.

i would just be there for him and tell him that you love him and will help in any way you can. depression and suicidal thoughts are hard, and people that don't have the illnesses don't understand, but can be very supportive. i would make sure he sees comedy shows on tv and funny movies with him to take his mind off of it,also maybe go for walks together or go somewhere fun.

There is not much you can do for him, I'm sorry to say, except be there for him. He has issues that require professional help; the only thing to do is be patient and kind and try and cheer him up if at all possible.

go see a doctor
