Are there any dogs that won't set off my husbands asthma?

Are there any dogs that won't set off my husbands asthma?

It isn't the fur, but the dander and all dogs have dander. Bichon Frise and Poodles are best.

I hate to say it, but the best dog for a someone with asthma induced by an allergic reaction to pet dander is none at all.

This type of allergy usually goes beyond the dander & rarely has to do with the fur, or hair (as in the case of poodles) ... the saliva, glands & other secretions will typically cause reactions.

Poodle is the most hypoallergenic breed of dog for children and adults who suffer with allergies to dog fur and dander or for people with Asthma that is exacerbated by allergies. This breed are very hypoallergenic and even better, they don't shed fur all over the place.

Not even the 'hairless' breeds.....sorry!
Dander is still carried(to a lesser extent, though) even by the hairless breeds.

has your husband had an allergy test as not all people who have asthma are allergic to dogs. Some breeds are less likely to affect people however your husband would need to be around these dogs to see if he has any reaction. So you need to find someone with a breed which is likely to have less reaction and spend time with the breed to be more sure. Some people find they are alright with poodles or similar coated breeds others are still affected by them, so your husband needs to be around them to discover if they set him off, perhaps you could find a breeder who will allow your husband to visit and be around the dogs on some visits before you make a decision whether the dog will have an affect

poodles, mexican hairless and yorkshire terriers make good dogs to have if you have asthma.

Not everybody reacts the same - your husband would need to spend time around a number of possible breeds before you commit to one. Most breeders would be happy for you to spend time with their dogs to find out if he reacts or not.
There is some useful info here:

no animal because they all carry dander under the coat ive got 4 bichon. and dont listen when people tell you to try bichons because its not true. i breed bichons and my bichons make me sneeze. so its not true about bichon. so sorry i would not tell you to have a bichon because they make me sneeze and i would suggest to you to get a stuffed animal sorry but its the truth

Poodles have hair instead of fur so he's better off.

I can only think of a poodle. But any dog that does not shed hair should be ok

Try a poodle. They don't shed their hair (they need regular grooming instead) so you won't have the dander problems which you get with a regular dog. Labradoodles (Labrador X Poodles) have similar coats so might also be OK. I think Irish Water Spaniels are the same (tight, curly coat which doesn't shed).

Otherwise, a hairless Chinese Crested might be the answer.

Avoid short coated Jack Russells, they shed like Billy-O . . .

try a bichon

My friends daughter has very bad asthma and they have always had poodles as this is the only dog her doctor recommended they have as they dont cast hair.

Maybe.
Each person is different and each dog is different.
But there are some breeds that are less likely to cause problems for asthma sufferers.

Poodles, Chihuahuas, Portuguese Water Dogs, Irish Terriers, and Bichon Frise are suppoesed to be good.

The best thing is to expose your husband to the individual dog before making a final decision.

Cairn terriers are known to be hypoallergenic.

But before getting a dog you should probably go to the breeder/rescue org. with your husband to see if he has any allergic reaction... just in case.

poodles are a good breed for allergy suffers, they have hair as opposed to fur

i would suggest spending time with a few breeds that way if there is a reaction you wont have to go through trying to find the dog a new home. you will also be able to research the dogs a bit further by talking to the breeders as the dog that he doesnt react to may not be a suitable breed for you(temperament, exercise etc..)

good luck

hi, i have chihuahuas and they suit us fine. We all asthma and they dont effect us. I believe boxers are also good.

As mentioned poodles, bichons etc.

Would warn against any doodle - no such breeds and no guarantee that they will not moult or be any less likely to affect your OH.

As with getting any sort of dog research the breeds to match the rest of your lifestyle as well and make sure you go to a very reputable breeder or try the breed rescues.

Poodles seem to be better, but may not work in all cases.

My bf got a Bichon Frise for his grandmother for that exact reason. Although have asthma and my parents run a large boarding kennel, the dogs have never affected mine.

The vet tech I would rate you if I had lv 2 but I don't so imagine yourself with another thumbs up from me.

The Arsinist: I laughed so hard that was so funny ^_^

This adorable dog!

Poodles and crosses like labradoodles (work it out!). Also Irish soft coated wheaten terrier.

I just got a chihuahua and some lady I was talking to said she has two chihuahuas because they are dogs that people with asthma can have and her husband had really bad allergies.

Chihuahuas are great for people with asthma. It's the only kind of dog that a cousin of mine (who has asthma) can have that doesn't set off hers.
