Can anybody offer tips on running a mile with asthma?

As part of the physical fitness test, I need to run a mile within the next week. I'm very fit in regards to push ups, sit ups, and stretching. However, I need to know some information on how to keep my breathing in check while running the mile. I have pretty horrible exercise-induced asthma, and I already know that I need to take an inhaler before. Any advice during the mile though?

If it is not a timed event don't treat it like a race. Inform the person in charge of the event that you have athletic induced asthma and have someone watch you. Don not participate if it is too cold.

If this is for a lifeguard test make sure you disclose your asthma. If you have an attack during a rescue, two people would then need rescuing. If this is for a gym class, you may be excused. If it is for an extra-curricular sport, you will need a release from your parents and doctor,
Good Luck

eww i am sorry i have insanely horrible exersice induced asthma too. just breath in through your nose out through your mouth. people will say this is bad but not for people with asthma,, then its a whole differnt playing field. just be sure to relax and dont be stupid. you know when your lungs are about to give out.

I've had asthma my entire life, and this year I am going to complete a mini-marathon (my second!!) I have found that rather than trying to hold a steady, tempo pace, my asthma reacts less if I run in spurts. I will run 1 minute, walk 1 minute, run 1 min, walk 1 min, etc. Also, remember it is important to listen to your body. If it hurts, slow down some and take a longer walking segment. Finally, I found it was much easier if I drank room temperature water. Cold water seemed to inhibit my runs. And remember to not drink too much to avoid the "sloshing" feeling in your stomach.

asthma is so overrated. i know plenty of people on the team (including me) who have asthma. if ur a first time runner then just take it slow the first lap and increaseyour speed bit by bit each lap thereafter

you need the following homeopathic medicines

r 43, r48, ipec 30, blatta o 30

Your asthma will be cured permanently.

I give free advice. I have cured asthma of my mother with these medicines.
