How long do asthma attacks usually last?

i am having problems with coughing and wheezing. i am taking advair, singulair and prednisone. plus two allergy meds. rainy spells trigger my asthma and i was just wondering if it will clear up on its own . they already have me on all these meds. also using albuterol inhaler. helps a little.

Weather can affect your asthma sometimes. Treating it with albuterol is the best way to relieve your asthma and not waiting for it to relieve itself. Advair and singulair are preventative respiratory meds and are usually taken once in the morning and once at night. They should not be used when you are having an asthma attack, because they take too long to work. Prednisone is a steroid and is used to reduce swelling caused from asthma. Albuterol is a rescue inhalers and are used when you are having an ashma attack. Your dr should have given you a peak flow meter to show you when it is time to take yout albuterol. If you do not have one, please ask your dr for one. They are wonderful devices that will help you with taking care of your asthma. It sounds like you are already doing a good job at treating your asthma.

Call your MD and be assessed for an infection, a virus or bacterial infection could be the culprit.
