I am an overweight teen with really bad asthma and I want to know what's the best work out solution for me?

I am 5'4, and weigh about 173. I really want to get down into the 140's. Please if anyone can help me, it would be greatly appreciated. I would also like to get toned for I am going to be in marching band with a very heavy instrument. I don't want asthma and lack of strength to be a task for me.

Hi Amanda,

Sorry to hear about your problem, but I admire you for your determination to get on top of it. Whilst I don't suffer from asthma myself, I have found acupressure exercises help a great deal with various complaints I have from time to time, such as headaches, indigestion, and so on.

There are acupressure exercises you can do to help relieve your asthma. Acupressure is like acupuncture but without the needles. I'll describe one here, and there are others described, with diagrams, in the resource listed.

Find the two points that are in the hollow below your collarbone and next to your breastbone, on either side. These two points are very easy to find. Simply press them for about 60 seconds whilst breathing deeply and relaxing.

You may find it easier to press with your right middle finger in your left hand hollow, and vice versa, and also to use two or three fingers. Alternatively, use your thumbs, keeping your left thumb to the left side, and the right thumb to the right. As always, breathe deeply and visualise the congestion clearing.

This exercise is primarily for relieving chest congestion, difficulties with breathing, sore throat and coughing associated with asthma. It also lessens anxiety.

The resource listed also has a link to help for your weight problem. I sincerely hope you gain some benefit from it.

Do try it and see how you get on.

Good luck.

Philip

The best solution is to adhere to a healthy diet and lifestyle plan. this consists of eating fresh fruits, veggies, whole-grains , lean meats, and minimally rpocessed foods. As for exercise, start out slowly and pace yourself. Also check out this website for more information on symptoms and treatments for asthma.
