Is Texas (especially Austin, Round Rock) a bad place for kids with mild asthma? Central Texas, specifically Austin, is sometimes referred to as the allergy capital of the world - it usually makes it on top 5 lists of the worst cities for allergies. It's a year round problem (ragweed in the fall, cedar in the winter (which has particularly high levels), and oak in the spring). Austin has been rated consistently as one of the worst cities in America for anyone with allergies (though it's a fantastic place to live overall). Yeah, I'd have to say "yes" and "no". It's a terrible place for allergies in general, but at least your child will be in good company. I麓ve lived in Houston all my life with mild allergies, but once I moved to Austin for school my allergies went into overdrive. The Hill Country is definitely known for that, but medication does help.
