Is Texas (especially Austin, Round Rock) a bad place for kids with mild asthma?

Central Texas, specifically Austin, is sometimes referred to as the allergy capital of the world - it usually makes it on top 5 lists of the worst cities for allergies. It's a year round problem (ragweed in the fall, cedar in the winter (which has particularly high levels), and oak in the spring).
If your child's asthma is provoked by allergies (and it often can be), that might be something to think about.
That said, it's usually pretty easy to manage with medication (and there's lots of allergy/asthma clinics around town). My partner has mild chronic asthma but she gets allergy shots occasionally and takes asthma/allergy medication (zyrtec and singulair).

Austin has been rated consistently as one of the worst cities in America for anyone with allergies (though it's a fantastic place to live overall).

My aunt moved to San Diego to get away from the allergens, though San Francisco's probably better. San Francisco has an almost continuous flow of wind straight off the Pacific Ocean. Rain and fog on the ocean have cleansed the air over thousands of miles. It's about the cleanest air you can get anywhere (Honolulu might be a tad cleaner actually).

Yeah, I'd have to say "yes" and "no". It's a terrible place for allergies in general, but at least your child will be in good company.

It's pretty common for people here to say they never had allergies before, until they moved to Austin (or Texas in general).

I麓ve lived in Houston all my life with mild allergies, but once I moved to Austin for school my allergies went into overdrive. The Hill Country is definitely known for that, but medication does help.
