Does msg affect asthma? Has anyone been affected by msg?

I THINK that msg has triggered my asthma that i havent had for three years! Does anyone else have any other experiences?

A 1995 report from the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology (FASEB), an independent body of scientists identifies two groups of people who may develop a condition the report refers to as "MSG symptom complex." One group is those who may be intolerant to MSG when eaten in a large quantity. The second is a group of people with severe, poorly controlled asthma. These people, in addition to being prone to MSG symptom complex, may suffer temporary worsening of asthmatic symptoms after consuming MSG. The MSG dosage that produced reactions in these people ranged from 0.5 grams to 2.5 grams.

I havent had asthma for 17 yrs and I eat Chinese food with soy sauce, but because of the MSG I dont often add extra soy sauce. However much soy sauce they cooked it in thats what I eat. Also MSG highly likely has triggered your asthma. Good Luck.

I have asthma, and msg doesn't trigger it in me. It CAN trigger asthma, though. I had a friend who couldn't eat it because it would trigger asthma in him.

That may be very likely. Most people I know of with MSG sensitivity develop migraine headaches. Since you are an asthmatic, this is perhaps how a sensitivity affected you.

When i eat msg, i wake the next morning with swollen lips, eyes, and puffy face. so, it might be increasing inflamation in your lungs as well.
