People with ASTHMA I have a question?

When you have trouble breathing, is it like a choking sensation. Like you literally can't breathe. Or, is it like you just can't get enough air in your lungs (catch your breath). I have the latter and I'm trying to figure this out. I don't wheeze and have no problem getting air in and out my airway. It's just that my lungs feel constricted. Like someone is pushing on them.

Personally I feel like I can't get a breath in. My chest gets tight, I take shallower breaths and eventually I just stop breathing all together. Some times I wheeze ( which is a good thing as it means I'm still moving air) and when I stop hearing it it means that it's time to call 911.

Professionally, I know that people with asthma have constricted and swollen airways and that the 'really' have trapped air and areunable to fully exhale the air in their lungs. Emotionally, it doesn't mean anything because your sitting there and trying to remain calm, taking your neb or inhaler, waiting the right amount of time to your next dose. If it still doesn't work your don't mess with your breathing because if your can breath nothing else works.

It could be. I have felt both things actually at different times and I am a lifelong asthmatic. When you feel like you are choking, it could actually be that you are having a severe allergic reaction to something you've eaten. Either way, you should see your doctor ASAP for proper evaluation and treatment as necessary. Hope that you find relief soon...Good luck!

I have wheezing when I have an asthma attack. BUT I do have the same symptoms when I have a panic attack. You hyperventilate with an attack and are actually taking in too much air!

i have asthma and it feels like you cant catch your breath, and could have alot of coughing with it
