What physical effects does asthma have on the body?

What physical effects does asthma have on the body?

Asthma is an inflammation of the bronchioles & aveoli (the passageways in the lungs that air passes thru). When this inflammation occurs, it can cause a mucus to build up, which causes wheezing and constriction which makes it difficult to breathe.

Physical effects are usually a tightened chest and SOB (shortness of breath). I have asthma and when it gets inflammed, I feel like there is a ton of bricks on my chest. It makes me feel very fatigued and unmotivated. I have to get plenty of rest after an attack. My asthma isn't too severe in that I can enjoy everyday activities, usually without complication. My cousin, however, has severe asthma and he cannot participate in sports or exercise due to his inability to handle activity. Thus, he is a little overweight.

I take Advair daily (as this is a preventative medicine). I also take Albuterol inhaler when I'm having difficulty. If the attack is severe and I end up at the doctor or hospital, they usually give me a breathing treatment and steroids. They usually make me feel shaky to start with, like i'm antsy with anxiety. After the medicine works, that feeling does wear off.

A good website to visit regarding asthma is WedMD.com. I hope this is what you were looking for.

There is one thing that happens in asthma -- the lining of your lungs swell and make it hard to breathe. Medications they give you are called "bronchodilators" which will attempt to give you relief by relaxing the muscles around the lungs' airways. However, if the medication has an anti-inflammatory mixed in with it, like Combivent, it would work a whole lot better.

well if you have to be put on steriods for along period of time because of the asthma if it is severe like my son has then you gain alot of weight and it can to some stunt your growth.

The information you seek is readily available.

For some it can be debilitating. Others can manage their condition.

Some well-known sports-people are asthmatics!
