Running in P.E. irritates my asthma?

I have to take P.E. next year. I am scared because running often irritates my asthma and I am also a little overweight which makes matters worse. (I know I need to lose it. I am working on losing it right now...) I have heard that my new gym teacher is very mean and makes you run full miles without stopping to walk. I cannot possible do that seeing at I can hardly run a lap around the track without becoming out of breath. A full mile might kill me of an asthma attack. Inhalers don't really help me either. How can I run the mile without feeling too out of breath or persuade the teacher to let me stop to walk? I don't want to be humiliated and I am scared that she will humiliate me. Grrr. I just don't know what to do. Any advice at all would be very beneficial. Thank you in advance.

Sounds as if you have exercise induced asthma like my nephew. What you need to do is see your doctor as you may not need to take medication every day, but there are inhalers you can use right before exercising to prevent attacks, and rescue inhalers in the event you have an attack. Any exercise limitations your doctor feels are necessary should be outlined in a note, one for your teacher and one to be kept on file at your school.

Many successful athletes (Olympic and professional) also have exercise induced asthma, but they've learned to deal with it. Warming up prior to exercising and cooling down after exercise is one way to prevent exercise induced asthma attacks. Taking your medication as prescribed is another way. And, see if it's possible to keep a cold bottle of water nearby when you exercise (my nephew's doctor recommended this) to sip if you begin to have an attack. I have seen this work to stave off a serious attack for my nephew, and it's also worked for me.

I hope this info helps, take care! : )

Make sure your P.E teacher is aware of your condition. Also set realistic goals for yourself in sport to overcome your weight problem. When you are running a good tip is to breath through your nose and out through your mouth.

I would talk to your doctor. Have them write a note that explains your condition and that you might need to walk. Your teach will need to listen after they see that.
