Does ketamine have any evidence in Asthma?

I've heard ketamine can be used in life-threatening asthma. Just wanted to know if anyone has heard of it? and is there any evidence?

Some studies support the idea that giving the anaesthetic, Ketamine Intravenously can help bronchial muscle relaxation. Evidence suggests that the anti-inflammatory properties of ketamine may protect against lung injury too. However, ketamine inhalation might show better results at higher airway and lower ketamine plasma concentrations for the treatment of asthma. The evidence is as the above poster said, limited. Theoretically it would make sense. Don't attempt this though

dumshitz say if your Dr.recommend ketamine be sure she/he disclose to you it is experimental.

Ketamine is a powerful drug usually used by veterinarians. It also has illegal use as frequently fatal street drug (special k.)

Please don't risk life and self-medicate with Ketamine someone buy on street. That be very very dumb an could kill you.

Hope your Asthma improves. I assume you are already on a 24hr Inflamation and spasm inhaler, have a rescue inhaler, and maybe have tried the pill Singulair which blocks leukotriens (an underlying cause of Asthma), Have you tried nebulizer with either Albuterol or Xopenex?
Try to cover all bases before going to experimental treatments. Have you had Asthma Education from a respiratory aide or nurse?

Good Luck

Since ketamine has been found to be a bronchodilator, its use for asthma patients, especially those in life threatening situations, has been the subject of several researchers. Unfortunately, it is still not conclusive since although there was a slight change in the condition of patients, the adverse side effects that it causes outweigh its therapeutic use.

There is limited evidence supporting the question.
