Why is propanolol or metoprolol contraindicated to patients with asthma and COPD? |
Why is propanolol or metoprolol contraindicated to patients with asthma and COPD? those meds constrict the blood vessels, making it hard to get oxygen.. and these medical conditions make it hard to get oxygen into the bloodstream to begin with... wish I could help.I take metoprolol tartrate along with quinapril and nifedipine er for high blood pressure. propanolol can cause congestive heart failure, the symptoms of respiratory distress can be mistaken for asthma or copd, and not treated appropriately. RN Propanolol has side effect on bronchial smooth muscle (contraction) this will lead to bronchial constriction which increase the crisis of asthma this side effect because propranolol is non selective beta blocker i am doc. |
