My son was up all night with a croupy cough, he also has asthma. Is it asthma or something else?


I gave him a breathing treatment in the middle of the night and it seemed to help. Is a croupy cough ever an asthma symptom? Does anyone have any advice or information on what could cause this? In previous attacks he has never had a cough like this. Any help is appreciated.

asthma can be very different in children than in adults and can be hard to differentiate what symptoms are what. I grew up in a family that has asthma and you know you cant take these things lightly. If your unsure of what this may be take him to a doctor. He may have a fluid buildup in his lungs or something. Or he could have a respiratory infection that could be aggrevating his asthma. In this case, breathing treatments will only help his asthma symptoms but not take care of what is causing the cough in the first place. The sooner you take your son to a doctor the sooner he will get better. If it is an infection, it will only get worse with time.

asthma is the shut down of the aveoli in the lungs which results in not being able to breathe. i've never heard of anyone have a cough as a symptom of asthma. its got to be something else.
could be asthama.... take ur son to a doctor...the symptoms of asthama is usually wheezing cough, chest pain and some allergies... even i am an asthama patient so i was just telling my experiences ...i am having this breathing problems since i was 6 months so it was really troblesome for me to bear all this when i was a real small kid
asthmatics DO cough.if he has a really bad attack,he may have a worse cough than he usually does.maybe he has a virus that is causing the croupy cough,which in turn has caused the asthma to play up.
THATS STILL ASTHMA .CONSULT A DOCTOR AND ASK FOR A RESCUE STEROIDS IF HE DOESNT HAVE A PNEUMONIA. AND ASK FOR A MAINTENANCE MEDICINE FOR YOUR CHILD LIKE ADVAIR.
Take him to his Doctor. I used to have Asthma when I was his age. I survived and outgrew it because of God's healing power and the wonderful praying mother He gave. Keep lifting you son up in prayer. God will see Him through.

Take him to see his Doctor soon or to the ER.
Asthma is a serious condition of health and should not be taken lightly as such.When a child is coughing through out the night it might be due to the disease rather than something else.This can even result to death.Kindly take the child for medical check up and if possible be provided with an inhaler so that this inhaler can relieve the kid when he can not Breath.Do this as fast as you can to help the child grow well.
