Is it okay to use a peak flow meter but have no asthma? |
I recently bought a peak flow meter for fun. I'm a girl around age 15-19, my height is 158cm and weigh around 70-80kg. Is it okay to use the peak flow meter with no asthma? My best is 500 and my worst is 400... Is it normal? And I've been doing some reading about asthma and I think I have some of the symptoms. When the symptoms (coughing and wheezing at night) occur, I used my peak flow and it's 400. Can an asthmatic has a range of 400-500? My question may not be understandable but please try to give me an answer... Desperado! yes lots of people use one as a guide to fitness and recovery time 400 is in the range for a normal person asthmatics tend to hav much lower readings during an attack 400 is about average for teenage girls... i have asthma and my PF is average 250. personal experience Peak flow meters are devices just to measure lung capacity. So they are not harmful to play around with. You can still be an asthmatic even if your best is 500. But not when your worst is 400. Now, I.E. if you got readings of 300 or below I would mention it to your doctor. Because that is 60% lung capacity (300/500). Yes but why would you, asthmatics have to use a peak flow meter all the time, but if you are healthy find somthing else to do for fun. Don't look for the ghost behind the door, you just may find them. |
