Where Can I Get FREE Asthma Masks?

I am low-income so buying masks are not an option. With the pollens and flu/colds going around and the air being so heavy I cannot seem to catch my breathe! Do you know how and/or where I can get some free masks?

It is important for people to avoid pollens that trigger an attack even when having one. Shortness of breath does not prevent you from wearing a mask. They used to be available at the Lung Assoc but they only distribute cold weather ones now.

My sons was prescribed by his dr. and insurance covered it. It is a tube that connects to his inhaler and the mask connects at the end. Also, in case nobody has told you, double inhaling does nothing for you. You take one breath, wait a few minutes for it to go through your system and take effect, then take another. Not, one breath then five seconds later, another breath. If neither of these are helping you, you can request a nebulizer. The machine is covered by insurance, it comes with a mask and tubing. Have the Dr. prescribe you Albuterol for a nebulizer. Albuterol treats broncho restriction. But, don't use it right before bed because it increases your heart rate and it is not recommended for use with those who have hypertension or cardiac issues because of this. But, your dr. should tell you if you couldn't handle that.

Try your county health department. The one around here helps with all kinds of medical supplies. Also a lot of churches will help you out with things like that. There's usually some paperwork to do whether you go to the government or you go to a church, but that's a good place to start. Plus I agree with Jennifer about a nebulizer. My daughter uses one every evening for the past almost 3 years with Pulmicort. Pulmicort is a controller, and it really helps. It has been a long time since she had an attack. Even this past fall with "air stagnation advisories" she had no problems. Albuterol is a good rescue medicine that she used 4 times a day when she was first diagnosed. Once we got it under some semblance of control though we went to the Pulmicort once a day.

The last thing you want to do if you're having trouble catching your breath is wear a mask.
