Cost-Effective Nebulizer for Asthma Patients?Yahoo Friends to Advise!?

A reduction of dosage by almost one-fourth, costeffectiveness and fewer side-effects, with a quick drug response to boot. The Defence Research and Development Organisation鈥檚 (DRDO) Institute of Nuclear Medicine and Allied Sciences (INMAS) is coming to the rescue of millions of patients with asthma and respiratory problems.
Inhalation therapy for alveolar deposition (ITAD) uses a modified nebulizer where the size of the drug particles has been reduced to sub-micron sizes, so that most of the medicine gets into the respiratory system.
DRDO scientists found that in the present inhalers, the drug is in the form of particles, each about 2-8 micron (1 micron is 1 millionth of a metre) in diameter. Only about 20% of the inhaled drug is introduced into the respiratory system and the rest gets into the non-respiratory system. Thus, the patient needs higher dosages.
The ITAD鈥檚 modified nebulizer brings drug particles to sub-micron levels, and only about 20% of the medicine gets into the non-respiratory system, said DRDO sources. It also has a specific effect on pulmonary systems.
While the technology was primarily developed for soldiers at higher altitudes, DRDO is currently in talks with a major pharmaceutical company to transfer the technology and make it widely available.
DRDO sources said field trials for ITAD, which would consist of a portable respiratory mask, had been done and currently, negotiations for Transfer of Technology was on. Once negotiations are through, the technology could be available within six months as the drug used has already been cleared by the Drug Controller General of India.

I often find nebulizers at goodwill or at yardsales. If you send me your address, I will look for one for you.
