Why incidence of atherosclerosis high in diabetes?

If you're referring to type two diabetes, it all has to do with the lousy diet and insufficient daily exercise that got us here in the first place....

"People with diabetes, as well as those with the high blood sugar levels that often presage the disease, are at increased risk for heart disease and stroke. The UCLA researchers found that in addition to lowering blood sugar levels, the diet and exercise program reduced the inflammation and oxidative stress that leads to atherosclerosis, the main cause of heart disease and stroke."

High blood sugar increases the amounts of free radicals that destroy sensitive cellular components such as DNA, causing premature cell death (repeated injury to the walls of the vessels causes atherosclerosis and plaque formation). It also reduces the amount of Nitric Oxide, that causes vessels to relax. Also, diabetics may eat more fat in an attempt to reduce their carbohydrate intake.

Diabetes causes circulation problems....
