Is it possible to have bacterial vaginosis when you're 13? I DIDNT have sex.?

Is it possible to have bacterial vaginosis when you're 13? I DIDNT have sex.?

The cause of BV (Bacterial Vaginosis) is not fully understood. BV is associated with an imbalance in the bacteria that are normally found in a woman's vagina. The vagina normally contains mostly "good" bacteria, and fewer "harmful" bacteria. BV develops when there is an increase in harmful bacteria.

Not much is known about how women get BV. There are many unanswered questions about the role that harmful bacteria play in causing BV. Any woman can get BV.

However, some activities or behaviors can upset the normal balance of bacteria in the vagina and put women at increased risk including:

- Having a new sex partner or multiple sex partners,
- Douching, and
- Using an intrauterine device (IUD) for contraception.

It is not clear what role sexual activity plays in the development of BV. Women do not get BV from toilet seats, bedding, swimming pools, or from touching objects around them. Women that have never had sexual intercourse are rarely affected although they can get BV.

If you think you have BV, I would recommend you see a doctor for proper diagnosis and proper treatment.

Good luck :)

Yes, if the other bacteria in that general area gets in, it's a perfect enviroment for it to grow. You can try an at home yeast infection treatment, but you might want to go the doctor.

Bacterial vaginosis can be caused by sex, but not necessarily. It happens when too much bacteria gets in the vagina, and it's very common. You can either wait a while and hope it goes away (which it often does) or you can see a doctor about it and get some antibiotics. If I were you, I'd wait, because antibiotics can cause yeast infections, so then you'll have another week of an itchy vagina.

Yeast infections and BV are NOT the same thing, by the way. Hint: if it smells, it's bacteria. If not, it's a yeast infection. (gross, I know)

yes, its possible to have it without having sex. theres normally bacteria in the vagina anyway, and when the anaerobic bacteria start to overgrow (can be from a number of reasons) it causes the vaginosis.
Should see a doctor, if thats what it is, it's something that can and should be treated.

Yes; in fact a mild vaginitis is very common in girls before or near puberty. If in doubt, check with your doctor anyway; it could be something else, which can't be determined though the Web.
