Bacterial Vaginosis problem HELP!?

Does anyone know a homemade remedie to get rid of BV or something you can buy from the chemist that helps? is there any long term side effects? i've heard it DOES NOT have any side effects but some ppl say it does, i'm rather embarrassed about going to the doctors & i seen a website that sells treatment it's expensive but i heard BV can keep coming back! i've had this for about 9months but never done nothing about it cos i didnt know what it was as i got blood drawn for all STI's which showed nothing wrong so i assumed it would go away but sometimes it gets worse than other times and its only the smell! HELP PEOPLE...

I had problems with BV for years. The best otc meds you can buy are rephresh if you don't want to go to the doctor and get metrogel (I am allergic to it-flagyl in it) or cleasin (no spelled right, sorry). They use rephresh in the UK as their treatment to BV. Look up rephresh online, they have a website. It costs $13-$20 depending where you buy it (they have it at walmart in the yeast infection area). What it does is controls the ph level in the vagina that cause the BV. Youll start to feel better within 24 hours. I use the whole box up to play it safe and when I have sex I make sure my husband wheres a condom so his sperm doesn't mess up my ph level again (I am allergic to latex down there so I use the no latex kind). If you get BV alot then you may want to start washing yourself with baby wash down there since it doesn't irritate the skin like soap or regular femine wash. Change of diet may help too. Less sugar and more water , fruits and veggies makes the world of difference too. Anything can through off the vaginal ph levels, lubricants, sperm (has a high ph level), soaps, tampons, maxi pads, menstral flow (blood has a higher ph level then the vagina has), feminine deodorant sprays, etc. Could even be your laundry detergent messing you up too. Think about the products you use in life that come in contact with down there and the types of foods you eat. Maybe you need to clean up your diet. Oh and take acidophilius pills (it is the active ingredient in yogurt). that will keep your natural vaginal flora in check too.

i'm glad i dont have a vagina!!!

I'm not exactly sure what BV is, but you could always try a yeast infection cream. It might get rid of it.

You need a prescription of Flagyl. Gets rid of it really well. Your sexual partner can also have it and not have any symptoms and just keep giving it back to you.

This will not clear up without an antibiotic. If you do not get this treated, the infection can spread and it is very serious. Embarressed or not, see your doctor immediatly. Trust me, doctors have seen this thousands of time. They don't judge, they just treat you. They are DOCTORS! I noticed that one person told you it might be a yeast infection. Yeast infections have a white cheesy looking discharge, they are itchy but do not have an odor. A bacteria infection has a sticky, yellowish green discharge, and a very, very strong odor. Monistat is used to treat yeast infections and can be bought over the counter. Bacteria infections will not be cured by Monistat. Your doctor will take a culture to determine what the infection is and then treat you accordingly. Best wishes!

I have had BV on a few occasions. The smell can get bad. The only way to treat it is by a meds which are not over the counter. I went to the doctors and got a pill I had to take for 10 days and it cleared up and the smell went way. The over the counter stuff works for a few days but then comes back. Since its bacterial you have to use antibotics to get rid of it!!! I hope that helps!!

Try getting an oral antibiotic at the pharmacist. Some places will sell them.

oh, one more thing, be SURE to eat things with bacteria like cheese and yogurt or you will end up with a yeast infection.

A woman's secretions have a balance of bacteria and yeast in it and sometimes what causes bv is that there isn't enough bacteria in your secretions.

go to a doctor, they'll give you some antibiotics. not a big deal. if you don't have insurance, go to your local dept. of health and get screened for std's. they'll give you the meds for free. It's what i did. I was sleeping with this guy who was uncircumcised and i kept getting BV.

You will need an antibiotic to get rid of it. If you have it for too long untreated it can affect your fertility. All you have to do it go to the doc they will do a pelvic exam and get you all fixed up.

I would go to the doctor no matter how embarrassing it was for me. Doctors are not there to judge people and if they are they should not be a doctor. Please get yourself some help and stop fooling around with something that can hurt your body. Go to the doctor. I wish I was there to help you.lol

I don't know of anything over the counter that will help. I have had this so many times. It really sucks. You have to go to the dr. It wont show up on blood tests anyway. Only a culture. You need antibiotics, very strong ones. You will absolutely hate the meds! I will never take them again. Flagyll (metronidazol, however spelled) they are really really strong powerful antibiotics. The side affects are long lasting...metal taste in your mouth for like 2 weeks after. the last time I had to take them, I thought I was gonna die, they made me feel like I was going crazy! There is a topical option to this med, but I have never tried it. You have to go to the Dr. This will not go away on its own. Sorry. Good luck.

if you have chronic vaginitis its need long term treatment with metronidazol plus cipro floxacin.
and write is it acut or chronic?

Do not be afraid of going to the doctor. If it does turn out to be BV (which if you haven't been to the doc. yet, you wouldnt even be sure if it is), they have several methods of clearing it up - all of which are fast and safe, and affortable methods. BV can come back again, so it's important to take care of if properly - because the virus can do serious harm in the long run. Please just see a doctor. That's my suggestion. I don't know of any homemade remedy that would be as effective as a proper perscription. And you can always ask your doctor "how much will this cost?" and if it is too expensive, say "are there any other alternative methods?"
But see a doctor, not Yahoo Answers.

I get BV often and the only way for it to go away is to go to the doc and get meds for it.
