I need to know if a pap smear can detect gardnerilla also known as bacterial vaginosis? BV is diagnosed by looking at a slide under microscope. Usually, this is done during a pap smear. The doctor will take 2 swabs, one to actually run the pap smear and another to examine under a microscope. No, they can tell if the vaginal cells are abnormal, but you will need a culture to determine if you have BV. |
