Could this be bacterial vaginosis? (BV) & How is a vaginal swab test performed?

Please give this a read..

I was reading up on an NHS site about it and my symptoms are almost identical. Any thoughts and suggestions? Thanks for your help. Oh also how is a vaginal swab test performed? Are we allowed to do it ourselves as i'm not to comfortable with opening my legs to strangers if you get what i mean lol.

If the link does not work the explantion was: i get vaginal discharge constantly. I don't get inching or pain, which is why me and my mum didn't go to the doctors about it or anything but it has gotten thicker (its white) and also now smells very strange. There's no chance of an STD.

I was diagnosed with BV three weeks ago and finished my pills two weeks ago. No, you can't perform the swab by yourself--they take a speculum, lube it up, and you have to put your legs in stirrups so that they can insert it comfortably. They then slightly dilate the speculum and put in a swab where they swipe the cervix and the surrounding area--I thought it tickled a bit, but it wasn't uncomfortable at all. Sorry, but you'll have to get used to this things as a woman--it's a doctor, and they're not judging your vag or anything, it's their job. They've seen thousands.

you don't necessarily have to experience any or all of the bv symptoms or any other vaginal infection's symptoms to have it. they say bv has a "fishy" odor. they'll have to do a vaginal swab like the other person described and look for "clue" cells under the microscope... which would mean you have bv. i really hope you don't... i've been suffering from recurrent bv for a few months, it SUCKS. good luck.
