Bacterial Vaginosis Question!!?

Can any woman honestly answer this question? My girlfriend lives in another state (45mins away) and recently we had sex. After we had sex I smelt something fishy. We've been together for about 3yrs. I asked her if she might have a yeast infection and she said no. Claims I always think she's seeing someone else. Anyway she went to the doctor and found out she had bacterial vaginosis (BV). She claims that her doctor said it's because she's using a soap called "Caress" and that's how she may have contracted it. Thing is I looked up on the internet and found out that there are quite a few ways that she could have gotten it. She claims her doctor didn't mention anything but the soap as the culprit! Am I getting played?

There are indeed quite a few ways to get Bacterial Vaginosis. And it can haunt a woman for months! Yes, the cdc has it as a STD as well because it can be aggravated by sex. Actually it appears that semen can activate that "fishy' odor and make it worse immediately after sex. Yes, it is possible that she could have had another partner. But she may ask you the same question about the last time you were together and whether you left her with something that she is dealing with now, so be careful.

It is quite possible, even more than probable that the BV is caused by the soap or any number of things, like douching. That can upset the vaginal ph balance too. Believe it or not, my friend found that the dryer sheets actually kept the BV recurring in her. Each time she finished treatment, it seemed to come right back. This happened for months! Imagine that. She was accusing her partner and he was accusing her...until they completely stopped, started changing things and found that she was putting 2 dryer sheets in the dryer. When she stopped, the BV was resolved after the next treatment. I can't be 100% sure if it was indeed the dryer sheets but it is too coincidental.

Give her the benefit of doubt. BV is an overgrowth of bacteria that is already inside of her vagina. The ph has changed and the bacteria has grown out of control. Imagine how she felt to have that "fishy" odor come out of her when you two were together. How embarassing!

Wait it out...give it a little time to resolve. Use a condom for a few times to make sure all symptoms are resolved and she is clear. Tell her to use IVORY and was her clothes in DREFT!

However...keep your eyes open... :-) Source(s): http://www.cdc.gov/std/bv/stdfact-bacter...

she could be right. It can be caused by perfumes in soaps.
soap can cause that especially if she prefers baths over showers
I would confront her about it. Don't make any irrational decisions. You have no proof that she has been cheating on you. You have been dating for three years, chances are you trust her. But really, talk to her, but even if you dont trust her, you dont want to lose her trust (no snooping around in her stuff!)
UUUMMM YES! You can only get BV from sexual contact. Call a nurse or Dr and they will tell.
your girlfriend is telling the truth, i just got over having BV. it really sucks, from my point of view. you can contract it by using soap with perfumes (especially bar soap), wearing tampons too long, not washing good enough, taking baths instead of showers. even some medications cause it (ie being on certian meds for a long period of time) all it is is bad bacteria taking over the good bacteria in the vagina. it dosen't mean she's cheating. btw, you CAN contract it if you have unprotected sex, my doctor reccommended me to have my partner get checked, because he could contract it and keep passing it back to me, whilst he has NO symptoms at all. so your best bet, is while she's getting treated for BV, you should go get checked out, too!
