Bacterial Vaginosis while pregnant? |
Well i went into the doctor today because i woke up this morning with some pretty intense contractions. They lasted about a hour, and a half. I watched, and they did go away, but i continued to be crampy most of the morning. I called my doctor, and she told me to come in. I told her about the smelly, yellow discharge i had, and they tested me for bacterial vaginosis. Well it turns out that's what i have. Long story short, i have been reading about it on the net, and it says it's a STD? I know I haven't been with anyone but my husband, and i'm pretty sure he hasn't either. Is it a STD? Has anyone delt with this before? I also read that it can cause pre mature labour. Just confused about it. Never had it before, and it seems kinda risky during pregnancy.. I'm also 32 weeks. Well they gave me some meds for it. I take 2 a day for a week. So i'm getting it taken care of. Just confused on why it's a STD cause i haven't had more than one partner in over 3 years, and can count on my hand how many times i've had sex during my pregnancy. LOL haven't had a sex drive :( From what I understand it's a type of yeast infection. While it's classified as a STD, it's not necessarily sexually transmitted. I read that it can be caused sometimes by wiping incorrectly when going to the bathroom. There's supposed to be some prescribed cream you can use to clear up the infection, but I'm not sure if it's safe during pregnancy. Doctors are not certain about BV and how women get it, although is cosidered an STD doctors are still researching about it and yes it can cause premature labor... BV is not always sexual transmitted I had it too and i have not been having sex im 26 weeks now i had it a 22 weeks and thats the frist thing that doctors say that it is sexual transmitted but when i told them i have not been having sex since i found out i was pregnant then they told me that it can also be caused be to much vaginal bacteria, Your vagina makes natural bacteria and sometimes that when you are pregnant it builds up more than usual and it becomes infected so you get BV but its cool as long as you get it treated with in a good amount of time then everything will be ok but it can cause your cervix to soften and start to open early causing early but if i were you i would head to the emergancy room now so that you can get that tooken care of ASAP. Well i hope this helps you, Good Luck! I am 26 and 16 weeks pregnant. Before I was pregnant, I got reoccurrent BV infections. The doctor would give medication and it would go away then come back. Finally my doctor was like BV is not usually transmitted between partners, but lets treat your husband and see what happens. We both took the week of meds and it cleared up. It's been almost a year since that happened. Now that I am pregnant, I am really cautious about my discharge and am constantly worried that it will come back. I'm starting to think I'm getting it again. I would not worry about your husband. I have a wonderful faithful husband and we've been together since high school. I don't think it's sexually transmitted in the since that you or your husband picked it up from someone else. I just think it can be passed between the two of you. My doctor also told me that guys are not usually carriers because they urninate out of the same hole, however, it's not a for sure thing either. |
