Biofeedback training.........Is it worth the money? |
I had some testing done (biofeedback) to see if I had ADD which cost me 250.00. These two couples said that I didn't have it and said it is anxiety and stress which is similar to ADD. I thought that I had ADD for sure but anxiety and stress can leave you in a fog and stuff which sounds like ADD but it isn't. Anyhow my question is....."Is Biofeedback training worth the money?" Does it work? They would be hooking me up to a machine which does something to your brain waves (no pain and supposedly no side efects). I would sit there for half an hour and the other half hour they will talk to me about it or something and teach me how to meditate. So by hooking me up to a machine it would apparently train my brain (I would see results in approx.6 wks). $75.00 an hour worth it? I am a little skeptical. Don't want to be "taken".I am nieve at stuff like this because I want to be able to not shut down when someone talks to me and understand them. I have an app. soon and need some help!! Thank You It is not worth your time, and just for the record, the biofeedback process does nothing to your brain-waves. It is essentially the same as a polygraph machine. It measures biometric data in an effort to make yourself consciously aware of your physical state. It usually measures, heart rate, blood pressure, body temperature, and galvanic skin responses. It is very effective, but not for this type of therapy. Everyone responds differently but I think it's worth it because drugs have side effects. You can buy a biofeedback kit and do it yourself at home. You're just training yourself on how to respond to stressful situations. You can learn a lot about biofeedback here- http://mind-mart.com I'm a Quantum Biofeedback Therapist and see excellent results with clients. Your best answer is very uninformed and does not understand Biofeedback. Yes it does work with the brainwaves etc. $250 is above average price and it usually takes 4-6 sessions of 1 hour each to see realistic results. Get a copy of "Get Out of Your Mind and Into Your Life" by Steven C. Hayes. It is a workbook-type book that explains how the way we think can cause stress and anxiety and depression. Strategies that don't cost anything are taught. If the book isn't enough, you might want to see a cognitive therapist who will help you think in ways that calm your mind and help you focus and handle what life brings up for you. I don't think that biofeedback is the best way to help you because you need to understand how you contribute to the problem. |
