My brother has a bipolar disorder and the state WONT grant him disability. Any suggestion or stories? MY step son did get on SSI (supplemental security income) he was 9 at the time. It took a lot of time on my part and a ton of paperwork. My step son was in the psych hosp. 11 times in 14 months and was also in a school for kids with special needs. I did not have a lawyer. We did get turned down the first request, however we appealed it and he does receive SSI now. It took us all together about 6 months to get it. If you wanna talk more indepth about it, I can try and help you to get all the paperwork you need and see if there is a SASS worker in your area that can help. Well were I came from there is human rights , every one as rights so you can take it to court tell him to get a disability lawyer to fight for him, and keep records of all Dr. visits and meds, and keep a diary of how it affects his daily life, good luck ! It's the Government that grants permanently disability and gives social security benefits not the State. He has to have a history of the disorder and doctors backing up the fact that he can't work. A general doctor, a psychiatrist and a therapist. Unfortunately in this day and age it is very difficult to get approved for disability without a lawyer. There are lawyers who specialize in disability cases. Find one in your area who doesn't ask for any money up front. Their fee is usually a percentage of what the first check is. It worked for me and I don't know if I would have been able to get through it without a lawyer. |
