Has anybody tried ECT for bipolar disorder? |
My psychiatrist said that with ECT, I might be able to go off all of my medications. Ya, done it, 6 sessions. It didn't treat my depression and I just got worse. It really messed up my head. I went through periods of walking blackouts, memory loss for the previous 6 months and some stuff from a year back. I was told that some people use it as an alternative to meds, and maybe it works for them, but I would only use it as a very last resort. I don't believe that my memory or cognitive function ever came back completely. I don't know what ECT is. I take Lamictal and it works great. http://www.amazon.com/your-drug-may-prob... http://www.mindfreedom.org/personal-stor... DON'T DO IT! It could and probably would cause permanant brain damage. Pschiatrists are full of crap. Just go off your meds on your own. You'll go through withdrawls but you just have to realize that they are withdrawls and not BPD. BPD is completely made up. research this site: http://antipsychiatry.org Stop letting them control you. my mom did - and it worked for her - but she still has to stay on her meds to maintain her mood...it doesn't "cure" bipolar...it treats it - it's very drastic, uncomfortable, a last resort...andcauses permenant memory loss, etc...NOT a quick fix!! nad i wouldn't recomend it unless you find medication is not pulling you out of a deeeeep depression I know what ECT is but havent had it but was in the hospital with someone who was going thru it. wasnt a pretty site. he looked kinda out of it. i was in there for 2 weeks and he was on his 3rd month. think of it like this. meds all your life or taking the risk of it not working going thru all that and still haveing to take meds? I am bipolar and i take meds everyday lamictal is good in my case as well. |
