I think my Dad has Bipolar disorder, but he refuses to see a psychatrist. How can I get help? Its urgent.? |
The patient refuses he has any problem, which itself is a sign of Bipolar depression. He is living with his wife, son and his wife...Seems to me that the tension caused by his behavior is not healthy for anyone...How can we get my Dad some help, so he can get his condiiton diagnosed, and take proper medication..He is refusing to see a psychatrist, and says he is perfectly fine. If he displays any signs of damaging behavior, some jurisdictions you can get a judge to have him tested against his will. Just feed him alcohol till he kills himself, you'll win by getting an insurance settlement. print information regarding bipolar disorder from the internet, make sure you get it from a reliable website. explain to him that he owes it to everyone around him to have it diagnosed and medicated. show your father the info that has the symptoms of that disororder and explain it to him in a calm and non-confronting manner. Many men and women can have issues that could be either stress of actually diseases. I am not a physician but I know that I need meds to remain stable now days. the stress finally got to me and in the end, I cracked. I like kitchen table conversations when it comes to serious family issues. Try to discuss why everyone feels dad is upset. Very few people believe that we can actually crack, but there are issues that can make us hard to deal with and often we consider it un-important to others, therefore we don't talk about issues. I will be honest, a good warm hug, a sincere "I love you" and honest discussion will get me talking or crying like a baby. Give it a try, you have nothing to lose. Life put him to sleep and than take him there.... My dad was diagnosed bipolar a little over 3 years ago. It is a real hard disorder to diagnose. There are many tests to be 100% certain. Are you sure he is just not depressed? Maybe all he needs is an antidepressant. A regular doctor can also help, my dad felt better with a regular Dr. instead of a phychocatrist/ What ever it is please get him help. My dad's disorder took over..he committed suicide 2 1/2 years ago. |
