How can i help someone with bipolar disorder who wont admitt they have it? |
my boyfriend i believe is bipolar. he refuses to admitt but he shows ALL symptoms. i want to take him to a doctor to be sure but he wont go. he wont ever go to the doctor. he is even coughing up blood constantly. something is really wrong with him. i just know he is bipolar and i want to help him. how do i? Coughing up blood is serious - get him to a doc. It could be tuberculosis, cancer, or from alcoholism. Bipolar would not have anything to do with that. Coughing up blood is serious and he should be taken to an emergency room immediately!!! As far as bi polar you can try to expose him to shows on TV that talk about it. Sometimes seeing it in other people will ring true in his own mind. Other than that there is nothing you can do. If he doesn't want help then you can't force it unless he becomes immediate harm to himself or others. Then you can have him placed in psych lock up for evaluation. Check with your local hospital "stress unit" and see what the laws are in your state. Unless he admits he has a problem and wants to do something about YOU CANT DO ANYTHING you cant help someone who wont help themselves first thing about such things is admitting to problem then getting help but i think him coughing blood might signal some sort of deadly situation then bipolar have a friend whose bipolar Well, coughing up blood is NOT a symptom of bipolar disorder. Regardless, he needs to see a doctor. There is no way to force him. He may have to wait till his symptoms are bad enough to start ruining his life before he sees the light. I'm sorry. If he will not admit he has a problem, no one can help him. I would think coughing blood would prompt him to go to the doctor. Even so, he has to decide for himself to get help. I will say a prayer for both of you. Maybe go to the doctor by yourself and ask his/her opinion. If he really does have bipolar his life will eventually come crashing down around him and he will be admitted to a psych ward. I don't think there is much you can do unless he breaks the law (which he probably will if he is bipolar and not being treated) or agrees to get help. |
