My mother has paranoid schizophrenia and bipolar disorder...? |
My parents got a divorce a few years ago, and I saw her every other weekend, it was fine for a while. But just a few months ago she was in one of her manic stages when I was @her house. I was playing a computer game and was reading a msg or something and she came running down the stairs yelling at me for letting the government send msgs about her. She told me to leave, I wouldn't.. long story short, she of course won the argument and I was sent home. I called the next day to see if we could patch things up and I tried to act like it was a regular argument, not about the government trying to assassinate her. She said she'd called me in a few days. I waited a week, but she never called, so I called her, but she never answered. Sometimes she'll pick up the phone and hang up, so @least I know she's alive. But what if she goes off the deep end 1 of these days? What would you do? She doesn't have anyone! How would you handle this? I called the neighbors, but they said they never see her. there comes a time when you have to let go. if she won't get help for herself, there is precious little you can do for her. you can call the police to check on her, but I think you know what that would do to her in her dillusional state..... Source(s): RN You can let her be, or try to have her committed. That is about it. Holy crap.... she needs to be taking medication for this! If she is doing this whole thing w/o medical attention she will only get worse. well thats a hard one to come by maybe go to a help center or ask on line go under ask a doctor or a nurse. you have to be careful if you think she is a threat to herself or to others i hater to say it but you might have to commit her maybe she needs to be on some kind of medication. or even she needs to talk to someone.....good luck..dont wait you dont want nothing to happen. have a friend or police to go check on her. Bi Polar and paranoid schizophrenia are not a normal combination. I wonder if her "manic" actions were not the delusional actions related to her paranoid schizophrenia. Regardless, is she on meds, is she taking them, does she have a psychologist or psychiatrist overseeing her. If so, get in touch with the professionals. She may be off her meds. If you need further help, google NAMI and see if they have anyone in your area. " First of all I hope she is on medication and is seeing a psychiatrist. If not, call your local mental health association and tell them about your mom. If she gets too out of hand when you are there, you can call 911 and they can take her to a locked mental facility for a 72 hour involuntary hold. If she isn't ln medication, they will give it to her. It's hard to see someone you love treat you so bad, but it's really not her that is doing this to you, it's her illness. Don't blame her, try and help her by making some calls or talking to someone at your school. Good luck. PS-my advice comes from experience. I took care of someone just like your mom for 6 years. |
