Can i recieve ssi for having bipolar disorder? |
Can i recieve ssi for having bipolar disorder? Yes, you can apply for Social Security Disability or SSI. If the condition is impairing the individual's ability to work, he/she may qualify. It's a complicated process, and there are many limitations, but here's a link to get started. Hope this helps, and good luck! http://www.socialsecurity.gov/applyfordi... If you can't work, yes. yes you can, I know of people world side that get it for there bipolar, in the UK its easier to get then the USA. in the states its very hard to get but if you have your doctor saying that you are not fit for work it will help a lot. take care Lisa bipolar for 17 years on disability for 7 years. most definitely=you have to have notes from family Dr and psychiatrist stating what you have and why you can,t work because of it Not quite as easily as just getting notes from your Dr. SS reviews all medical records, hospital records, pharmacy records. There are certain criteria you have to meet, ho many hospital stays, lenght of disability, Are you capable of doing any work, not just the one you are trained to do. For example you might be able to work at McDonalds but not at a 4 star restaurant. Anyway, unless you truly feel that you are disabled, you only get a percentage of your income for the past # OF quarters you have worked. The normal payment if you have a good income is about 800-900 dollars. You do not get medicare health insurance until you have been on disabilty for 2 years. Also, who's going to pay for your meds, apt, electric, gas. $800 doesn't go far. Plus it takes up to 6 months to get benefits, Been there, Done that. I know people with bipolar disorder who have received SSI for over 20 years. Some of these people have worked off and on during this period. If the consulting psychiatrist is convinced that you are unable to hold down a job due to your disability - you're a shoo in for SSI. |
