Where can I find useful information on Bipolar Disorder?...? |
I know what it is and I don't have it, a family member does, I was just wondering where (like websites) that I could find useful information. Don't tell me to google it or put it into a search engine because I've done that. you can google it or go here http://www.nimh.nih.gov/publicat/bipolar... , it is the National Institute for Mental Health. They give you the basics on the diease and their links section can be quite useful. You can buy some wonderful books that aren't expensive. "Bipolar for Dummies" is a good start. You can also attend Bipolar Support Groups without having the disorder. Family and friends go to learn how to deal with the disorder to help the family member or friend while keeping their own sanity. It's a challenging illness for all concerned. You should find these useful http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/bipolar_dis... http://www.dbsalliance.org/site/pageserv... http://www.minddisorders.com/a-br/bipola... WebMD actually has a ton of good information about bipolar disorder and other mental illnesses. They also offer information for family members who are coping with a loved one with this disease. It's really a great resource for all the basic info, including info about medication, what to know before going to the doctor and the benefits of different types of treatment. They also have message boards specifically for those with bipolar or who have family members with it--it really helps talking to people who have been there and who can offer real-world advice. It's helped me and my family out immensely. Also, I know you said it's your family member who is bipolar, but there's a book that both of you might find helpful. It's called "Darkness Visible" by William Styron. It helps shed light on bipolar, etc. Hope this helps! http://www.amazon.com/darkness-visible-m... http://www.webmd.com/hw/bipolar_disorder... |
