Could I have a form of a bipolar disorder? |
My parents think that I'm in a serious depression but in my opinion I think it's something else. I've never been truely happy ever since I was 12 or so and I'm 20 now. I know that a 20 year old girl shouldn't be having the kind of mood swings like I do. One minute I'm completely alright then the next I'm pissed off at the world (feeling like I wanna hurt somebody), then I'm back to being down (start balling my eyes out, then I calm down to just being depressed) and that stays for a while until I get to be a lil' bit alright again. What do you think it could be? That all happens in a period of maybe a couple of days and then it starts all over again. I've done checked on bipolar stuff, I never have high points where I have a whole lot more energy than usual or where I'm excessively happy...its just about every single emotion except that. So could you think it could be a mild form of bipolar (like BP II) or do you think it could be just my hormones that are outta wack? I think you've done some good research and that you either have bipolar disorder or hormonal swings. However, since it's cycling pretty regularly from your description, I'd think the first option. Get it checked out. It's not pleasant living like that and life can be so much more enjoyable. It could be Bipolar Disorder or it may be a personality disorder combined with depression, only a psychiatrist can advise you correctly. If you need help you should see a psychiatrist because the medicines can work miracles and be life changing. You can find happiness and the first step in doing that is correcting the medical condition that is making you unhappy. You may want to enlist the services of a Psychotherapist....just about ALL depression is treatable. It is a GREAT time to be alive, in that, there are tons of medications to make life a bit more even keel. GOOD LUCK, and SMILE. There IS hope. Let a professional diagnose you. Just be sure to be completely honest and upfront when you see someone so they can best help you figure out if there is a reason you dont regulate your emotions easily. It sounds like more than just your hormones but it may be something easily corrected with an anti depressant. You should read up on BORDERLINE PERSONALITY DISORDER. it's actually has alot of similar factors as many other disorders so it's often overlooked It could be a personality disorder, but I would bet my money on a hormone imbalance. You should consult a Dr and have your levels drawn, you may have to have them drawn several times over the period of a month. It may be influenced by your menstrual patterns. I personally feel that you would benefit from hormone therapy based on what you've said, but a Dr would be able to give you a more informed opinion. Good Luck!! RN |
