I think my mom and I have bipolar disorder, what should I do? |
I've seen the signs of bipolar disorder in my mom for a long time, and I'm starting to see them in myself. We've both been diagnosed for ADD as well, but I think we should be tested for bipolar disorder and medicated if necessary... but I'm afraid if I mention it to my mom, she'll get mad, or she won't trust me. I mean, I'm only fourteen, and I'm no doctor, so I really don't really know for sure. But I think we should at least be tested for it. Any ideas on how to approach the situation? Should I talk to my dad about it first? So confused... @_@ The only way to find out is to go to your psychiatrist (and ask your mom to be with you). He/she can figure out what's wrong and if you have it, can put you on medication - which may be a long process before you find the right one, or may not. I find it strange that he/she never noticed other symptoms, unless you haven't been talking much. Source(s): I am bi-polar. If you ever want to e-mail me with questions, please do so. Go to wikipedia, search for Bipolar, look at the symptoms and compare. Print the page out and confront her. You NEED to see a doctor for help. Don't tell your mom that you think she is!! If anything, tell her that YOU are feeling down and would like to see a therapist or counselor. Find out more about Bipolar disorder before you self diagnose. Or ask a school counselor?? There are different kinds of medications that will help you and you may even need to seek counseling. My younger brother is bipolar, I know what you are going through just by watching my brother. Good luck, hang in there |
