How do the hormones released during sex affect bipolar disorder? |
My husband is bipolar and it seems as though his downs are alot worse after sex Sex, shopping, gambling, chocolate, caffiene, nicotine and a few other stimuli are triggers for release of endorphins, namely Seratonin. people with low seratonin will seek one or some of these activities to boost their own mood. Sometimes the dpression is so much that it will make the sex feel unrewarding to the depressed person and thus the "down". Is he taking meds for his bipolar? if it's a new medicine, you may mention this to his doctor, but if he's on meds and they're not new, then it's just part of his disappointments under the fog of the depression phase of his bipolar. I don't think that has to do with bi-polar. He has sex issues or sex guilt. I know some one who has bipolar and is a sex addict.Thank goodness she is married. They should not have any effect. Look for other reasons. |
