Does anyone out ther have an adolesant with bipolar disorder?? |
My son is in the hospiatl in full blow mania--he is refusing to take any medication at this time and is word salading--I am so afraid--they cannot make him take his meds--I am afraid he is getting worse isn't there anything the hospital can do to make him take his meds Hi I am sorry you are going through this and understand as a parent that its so hard when we have to watch our children like this. my daughter has ADHD but I am 99% sure its bipolar. I know mental health like the back of my hand as I have had bipolar since I was 10 years old (and a number of other disorders). I am sure in time your son will come to understand that he needs his meds and will learn to control him self a little better. I know mania and when full blown it can seem everyone else is in the wrong and not you ( as in the person that has the mania.) please hang in there and take care lisa Source(s): try this link section http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/lis... and try this group for relatives http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/rel... They should sedate him... How old is your son? You should have a right but it depends on your state. For his own safety... he should be sedated for a while. My 20 year old little sister is bipolar and borderline schizo. She is constantly in the hospital due to the fact that when she's feeling good from her meds, she feels like she doesn't need them. Usually when she's really just out there, they sedate her for a while and usually when she gets out of it she is willing to take her medications again. Is he in a normal hospital or has he been sent to a phyciatric hospital? My sister has tried to kill herself several times, so they do medicate her since she's a danger to herself. You should find out what can be done legally for him in your state. Insist that they hold him down and give him a shot to calm him down. It is cruel of them to make him and you suffer. Is he court committed? If he is, they should be able to make him take medicine. If he is not, you can insist. You might have to be firm because you will be talking to people who think they know EVERYTHING. Hello "Me". Bipolar disorder is caused by an imbalance in brain neurotrasmiters. The spiritual explanation is that he has a spirit attached. This is why he had extreme mood swings. When the spirit rules he is in the down mood and when he rules he is in the up mood. It is so important that he takes his meds.....they will diminish his symptoms. My prayers are with you If your son is a minor, you can give them permission to give him the medication by force...but you must understand, that when the child is out of your sight it will be very hard to control him and make him take medication he just doesn't want to take. Right now it's mostly important to make him understand why the medication is good for him and his future. He should also be made to understand what bipolar makes him special and different than anyone else in the world and how many other great bipolars there are amoung us there are and how he should be proud of himself that he is one. Tell him about the other bipolars there are, the Genious bipolars and entertainers we have. Do anything you can to get him into it...But if it will get him to take the medication...EDUCATE HIM! When I was diagnosed With bipolar back in 1987, I really thought my life was over and I'd never be able to take care of myself. Now I own a home, a car, put my son through college ON MY OWN, took a cruise, and have two published photographs. Let him know He can do anything he wants to do! |
