Has anyone ever heard that certain drugs (prescription) can CAUSE Bipolar disorder?

I'm not talking about meds that trigger BP that was already "in hiding"

It is not likely to have a drug cause full fledged bipolar disorder, but certain prescription and stree drugs can cause mania, the high side of the disease. Mania includes inappropriate happiness, decreased need for sleep and food, irrational spending patterns or risky behavior, hypersexuality, etc. Drugs that I know of that can induce mania include cocaine, amphetamines, methamphetamine. Prescription drugs can include ritalin, prescribable amphetamines, provigil. Anti-depressants like prozac, paxil, zoloft, and effexor can induce hypomanic symptoms, which are similar to manic symptoms but not as severe. The difference between these drugs causing mania but not causing bipolar disorder is that the mania goes away when you stop taking the drug. If you are having any of these symptoms with these drugs, you should contact your doctor, because mania and hypomania can cause you to engage in behaviors that are dangerous and ruinous to your life.

I wouldn't doubt it, as I had depression that was caused by an interaction of two medicines (Lipitor and a birth control pill). The Lipitor altered the amount of hormones that were released by the pill, which caused me to become depressed. The body and all its chemicals are very complex. Lots of things could potentially mess with your neurochemistry. I haven't heard of drugs causing bipolar, but then again, what I had was a relatively rare interaction of Lipitor.
