Why can't scientists find a cure for schizophrenia or bipolar disorder?

It has been more than 30 years that they tried to find a cure but there is none.

Will there ever be a cure for mental illnesses?

They cannot "cure" mental illness because they do not know what causes it. They can however treat it.

There is a cure! The cure is inside you as silly as it may seem it is! You have to just let yourself be the person you so desire to be. Also, if your moods change a lot I would suggest eating a balanced diet, but I really do believe that the cure is inside all of us. Diet is Number 1 too, but it's inside. Just give yourself a chance to be you! Also, is there anyone in your life that may have really hurt you? If so, this could be the key to your pain. A lot of people once hurt, build a wall around them and never truly let anyone in. If you are getting offended easily and lashing out on others subconsciously your are being hurt everyday by all sorts of people because of your past. I could be wrong, but I really hope this helps. Just let it all out on the table w/ courage and let someone know the real you. Let them know what your biggest fears are. This will help you!

I'm bipolar and I ask the same question every day

no. its all in there head. they just need to learn how to set there mentall stage correctly.

They can't for a lot of reasons. One being that not enough research funding goes to it. Another is that you can't open up someone's head and snoop around to figure out what's going on. Then there's the reality that the brain is by far the most complex organ in the body. No brain illnesses have been figured out yet, so it's not just schiz and bipolar. There are many brain systems that they think are involved in bipolar - chloride channels, ion channels, calcium channels, GABA, etc - but no one understands it yet. Sucks.

On the plus side, they recently identified some genes thought to be involved in schiz. On the down side is that I read another article that said it may be a lot of genes and "broken traits" not always occuring in the same ones in the same places, meaning it's going to be very complicated. They have yet to find anything on bipolar, so that looks even more complex. Does it matter if they find the genes? Maybe it'll help med research. Maybe it'll help parents abort their babies.

As for cure, nah, I don't think there ever will be one. There certainly can be much, much better medication. My own pet peeve is that meds are developed for schiz and epilepsy, not for bipolar. That is just so wrong!

There麓s no cure as we can麓t find the cause.Hopefully in the future scientists will be able to find the cause so we can cure it.At the moment there麓s some medications though.

Schizophrenia and bipolar illness are genetic illnesses that are treated by changing brain biochemistry with medications.
Atypical antipsychotic medications bring new hope for patients who suffer from the symptoms of schizophrenia.

* Clozaril is the best medication available today for patients suffering from schizophrenia.
* Lithium is very effective in treating bipolar illness. It prevents mania from recurring.
* Valproic acid is effective in treating fast cycling bipolar illness. It is also effective in treating regular cycling bipolar illness.

Schizophrenia is often misdiagnosed. These patients are in reality bipolar and respond to lithium, Depakote, Tegretol and other mood stabilizers. Correct diagnosis is the first step to treatment. Family members of patients suffering from schizophrenia need to know how to find biological psychiatrists who better understand how to treat these illnesses.
