What are the clear signs of bipolar disorder?

Being mean one day and nasty the other isn't just a symptom of being bipolar does it? I believe my mother may have it and she won't get tested for it. Are their other signs of having it?

My mother already went thru menopause and this has nothing to do with how I feel about her, or something she did. Its something that has been going on for years.

Having days of extreme happiness followed by days of extreme misery. Biploars live their life going from one extreme to the other, they are never in the middle.

my wife, son, and ex wife have all been diagnosed with bipolar and while regularly medicated are much more pleasant to be around if she does't think she has issues to deal with then what is she afraid of and if she does realize she needs attention then find out for everyones sake also fyi this is a dissability and can recieve benifits for yourself and dependants upto around $1,500.00 per month + upto three years back pay depending on work history (better $ if youve worked but if you havn't worked it's easier to prove dissability) hope this helped somehow

bipolar includes both a high, and a low phase...
bi (two) polar (extreme ends)...

so, unless your mother feels high and happy and plunging into depression (or something similar but unmistakable) it would most likely not be bipolar.

if the process takes days, maybe 2 days furious, 1 day happy, it may be a cyclic mood swing.

if she is always mean / nasty, i dont see the difference between the two... both are just as negative. may be menopause, or potentially some other psychiatric disorder...

=) try checking if she still has her periods... it would actually help to find out whats wrong with her...
